Climate
Sarawak enjoy a tropical climate. On the average, temperature range between 25°C to 32°C. The monsoon season is between November
to February though rainfall is healthy between 330cm to 460cm. You can visit any time of the year.

Time
Malaysia has a single time zone and is 8 hours ahead of GMT . This means it is 8 hours ahead of London (GMT) and 7 hours ahead during daylight saving time in the spring and summer. It is 13 hours ahead of New York (Eastern Standard time) and 12 hours during daylight saving time in the summer.
Electricity
The electricity supply is 220/240 volts at 50 hertz . The electrical plugs and sockets used are similar to those used in Britain. North Americans will have to use adaptors which are readily available from the major hotels.

Banking and Currency
The Malaysian currency, the Ringgit (RM) is presently to the US dollar at 3.00 RM to 1 USD (please check current rate).

The Malaysian Ringgit notes are available in denominations of RM1, RM 2 ,RM5, RM10, RM20, RM50 and RM100 , and coins from 1 sen, 5 sen, 10 sen, 20 sen, 50 sen .

Most outlets take the major credit cards and ATM machines are readily available. However, do note that most but not all of these machines have a 24 hour operation. And most convenient stores and coffee shops only accept notes.

Money can be easily exchanged at banks and licensed money changer. If you need further assistance , we can organise currency exchange upon your arrival.

Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend tourist to travel with insurance cover. Every person participating in any tour holiday organised by INSAR TOURS & TRAVEL shall be regarded in every respect as carrying in his/her own risk with respect to loss or injury to person or property. The company does not accept responsibility for losses or expenses due to delay, sickness (of any kind), weather, strikes, war, quarantine or other travellers. The company reserves the right to change routes, timetable, itineraries and accommodation if necessary or in the case of force majeure. Although all vehicles owned by the company are fully insured, tourists are requested to insure for cancellations, health, accidents, medical and baggages before the tour.

Clothing
We recommend light and comfortable clothing such as shorts, T-shirts, sarong and long pants. Casual wear is acceptable in town area. For most trips, bring along swim suit (modest). Light raincoat is recommended especially if you enjoy outdoors. And don’t forget to include a pair of sun-glasses and sun hat/cap when you pack for the exotic journey.

Footwear
If you plan to go hiking in rainforest, we recomment you to bring along durable, comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots that you can rattle through streams and muddy trails. For short trips around town, a comfortable pair of sandle or sneakers will be ideal. And a pair of thongs will just be nice to make you feel relax and enjoy stroll around and about.

Medicine and toiletries
Apart from personal toiletries, it is recommended to include insect repellent and basic first-aid kit that contains band-aids, mild antiseptic cream, bandages, cotton swabs, tissues and painkillers. Sun block and lotion is also recommended.

Drinking Water
In major towns, tap water is safe for drinking. However, bottled water is readily available.

Food
Chinese and Malay food are common local delicacy though in major towns, western is readily available. Fast-food serving burgers and fried chickens are available in most towns. Sample some local delicacies such as satay (meat skewer with peanut sauce), Sarawak Laksa , “Kolo Mee” (noodle with BBQ meat) or simply the chicken rice.

Language
Though Malay is the national language, English is widely spoken here.
